چکیده

Dry eye disease (DED) is one of the most common conditions encountered by ophthalmologists in their practice. Currently, experts consider meibomian gland dysfunction to be leading cause dry syndrome. This condition characterized obstruction discharge ducts and/or changes glandular secretion, which leads disturbance tear film stability and provokes inflammatory process ocular surface. The purpose this publication acquaint optometrists with procedure meibography, a diagnostic method that allows qualitative quantitative assessment glands determine degree dysfunction. first part workshop presents anatomical aspects normal structure second describes technique for diagnosing third meibography algorithm its interpretation.

In vivo biomicroscopy and photography of meibomian glands in a rabbit model of meibomian gland dysfunction.

The usefulness of transillumination and biomicroscopy of the lid margin in assessing meibomian gland dysfunction was studied in a rabbit model. Transillumination of rabbit lids treated with topical epinephrine for 2 to 3 months revealed plugging of the meibomian gland orifice. Plugging appeared to be correlated histopathologically with increased thickness and hyperkeratinization of the ductal e...

Clinical Trial of Thermal Pulsation (LipiFlow) in Meibomian Gland Dysfunction With Preteatment Meibography

OBJECTIVES Thermal pulsation (LipiFlow) has been advocated for meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) treatment and was found useful. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of thermal pulsation in Asian patients with different grades of meibomian gland loss. METHODS A hospital-based interventional study comparing thermal pulsation to warm compresses for MGD treatment. Fifty patients were rec...

Meibomian gland dysfunction.

Blepharitis is probably the most common disease entity seen in the general ophthalmologist's office. A significant proportion of these cases are secondary to meibomian gland disease. This review outlines our knowledge of the histopathology, lipid abnormalities and role of microorganisms in meibomian gland dysfunction. We will also review the physiology of meibomian gland secretion and present m...

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Hypercholesterolemia

High cholesterol is a known risk factor for ischemic heart, cerebrovascular, and peripheral vascular disease. Previous studies have postulated that hypercholesterolemia (defined as total cholesterol of at least 200 mg/dL) also plays a role in the development of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). In this observational, case-control study, Pinna et al. investigated the correlation between MGD and...
